Sea turtles, particularly the Caretta caretta species, only come ashore to lay eggs and are classified as endangered species. On Turkey’s Mediterranean coasts, the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) and the green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) lay their eggs. Studies show that Turkey and Greece are among the most important nesting sites for Caretta caretta in the Mediterranean.
